Steve Marion makes guitar records with no words on them. When he described Freedom he listed Purple Rain, Marvin Gaye, A$AP Rocky and spaghetti westerns. I have never been given a brief that sat closer to what I already think about.

So the video is a night ride through Nevada: a motorcycle, an ice cream truck, a motel sign, a liquor store, a dog with a dollar chain, and a sun that will not finish setting. Hand-drawn line over one lurid pink-to-red gradient that runs across the whole release.

ANTI- gave me the album rather than a single video, which meant building a place instead of a set of pictures. It is the closest my commercial work has come to how I paint: draw the shape once, commit to the colour, leave it.
